Day 4 - Friday July 2, 2010 Tokyo, Japan

Left: View of Tokyo from the top of the Tokyo Tower
Right: The Tokyo Tower - highest structure in Tokyo (for now until the new tower is completed).
A 12 hour + flight from Chicago to Tokyo Narita on ANA. They did a good job, but the "bed" wasn't very comfortable. I slept maybe 4 hours or so. Watched 3 movies - "Bounty Hunter", "Invictus", and "Extraordinary Measures". Enjoyed all 3.

It was much easier getting into Tokyo from the airport than I had expected. Bought a shuttle bus ticket and for the equivalent of $30 they took me right to the hotel. Much easier than messing with the train and then having to get a taxi.

The hotel - Dai-Ichi looks newly renovated. Very central near the Imperial Palace and many sights. Got unpacked, cleaned up, booked a tour for tomorrow and then took off on foot to explore the immediate area. I'm in the Ginza district where all of the nice shops are. The streets are closed on Saturday and Sunday to traffic and it turns into a huge pedestrian mall. Block after block of shops.

The Imperial Palace grounds are surrounded by a moat and only about 4 blocks from the Dai-Ichi. That will be on the tour on Sunday.

More to come about Tokyo.

  1. Block after block of shops sounds like a dream come true to me.
